Environmental Festival this Fall in Teeswater: Get Involved!

Hey F.E. Madill Students!  You have been hearing stuff about the environment for awhile now.  Information about global warming, funny shaped light bulbs, Earth Hour and gas prices.  Have you been wondering how to get involved and have fun at the same time?  The REYOUZD festival this September in Teeswater might be for you.  Here are some details:

The First Annual Reyouzd Festival September 20 & 21, 2008 at the Town Hall in Teeswater. Ontario. The town will also be the site of the 2008 International Plowing Match September 16 to 20th and the 14th Annual Canadian Big Band Celebration, Sept 19-21, is occurring in nearby Port Elgin.

Planned Events:

  • A Reyouzd Fashion Show: youth and clothing eco-retailers working together to present a show of reused and repurposed clothing for an exciting display of innovation and vision. Introducing the work of Hayley Murdoch-Fyke.
  • A Sustainable Art Show of regional artists who incorporate reclaimed materials in their work.
  • A presentation of poetry, prose, and storytelling with an environmental twist.
  • A presentation of regional foods.
  • Enviro music featuring Dropping Science presentation of The Climate Project by Al Gore-trained Victoria Serda and her daughter.
  • A static parade of repurposed items and garden ornament and some surprises along the way....

So be sure to get involved or be in attendance Madill students and think about how you can have a positive impact on your environment.  For more information visit www.reyouzd.com

Gang Green: Madill's Club for the Environment

Earth

Gang Green is a club at F.E. Madill focused on environmental issues.

If you are interested in the environment or are curious about all this 'Green' talk come on out.

To begin with we have restarted recycling in the cafeteria and hope to expand the program further.

We have also had a successful fundraising program, selling environmentally friendly lightbulb packages.

We are currently in the process of planning other special events and awareness campaigns.

Prefect Trip Practically Perfect In Every Way

Prefect Trip

The prefects prepare for an afternoon of laser tag.

Madill prefects were rewarded for contributing to the positive atmosphere at the school Friday May 18th with a trip to Laser Quest in Kitchener. The group participated in two rounds of tag and rumour has it that one of the teachers may have posted a record low score!

Supervising teachers Ms. Kellington and Ms. Wheeler prepare for battle!

Reach For The Top Competition

The Junior Reach for the Top team competed in Clinton on Wed. April 5, against other schools in Huron county. Becky Guay, Adam Simpson, Jenna Strong, and Julia Pegalo competed competently in all of the day's games. Matt Underwood, who is usually part of this team, was at the regional Science Fair in Seaforth and therefore had to miss the tournament. We certainly missed the geographical knowledge that Matt usually brings to the games, but the Science community benefitted from our loss, as Matt is moving on to the country-wide Science Fair in Quebec. Nevertheless, the team had a tremendously good time throughout the day, and even learned a few things along the way. Congratulations to South Huron District Secondary School for finishing in first place. Next year, when Madill's team members are in Grade 10, we will certainly be a force to be reckoned with.
