Madill Gears Up For Huron-Perth At St. Anne's

In the final meet before Huron-Perth Madill athletes competed hard, turning out impressive results.  The team has been making steady progress since practices started in March, and this is the time of year when all that hard work pays off.  Between the Mini-Meet at St. Anne’s and the last meet in Petrolia the team has pulled off over 50 personal-best performances.

At the Mini-Meet both the Midget and Senior boys relay teams claimed top spot, while all the girls relay teams finished 2nd place or won their event.  Individually, Ellen Gilchrist won both the midget girls shotput and javelin, while Kayla Smith won the 100m sprint and triple jump.  Heather deBoer won the Senior Girls discus and javelin, while Candace Spaling earned first place in long jump.  The boys did just as well.  Among the Seniors, A.J. Beasley broke a 16 year old school record in long jump with a leap of 6.88m.  Adam Young won all 3 throwing events he competed in and Ben Procter won the 400m hurdles in a timely, clutch performance.  The midget boys also did well with Braydon Pellet winning both the long and triple jump and Tyler Smith winning the 100m sprint, shotput, and discus.

The team as a whole is performing well and beginning to peak at the right time.  The hard work of all our athletes has paid off in the form of another solid track and field season.  The team looks forward to Huron-Perth being held May 12th and 13th in Goderich at G.D.C.I.  Keep that Purple Machine Rolling Madill!!

F.E. Madill's Track and Field team Continues to Perform Well

Is that the smell of sweat mingled with the fragrant blossoms of spring? Madill's Track and Field team must be growing and flowering into a beautiful thing. The team has competed successfully in three meets so far. The first was against a large field at Regina Mundi in London, the second at St. Anne's in Clinton and most recently the team had a strong showing in Petrolia competing against a field of over 800 athletes.

Our premiere distance runners, Emily Youngblut and Ben Procter, both achieved personal bests in the 1500 and 3000m races respectively. Justine Beasley, an enthusiastic member of our Junior Girls team, achieved personal bests in both high jump and long jump, claiming third spot in the Junior Girls long jump competition overall. Also, there is a buzz around the team about the Midget boys relay crew. In three meets the boys have blown away the competition placing first everytime. Our next meet is Thursday ay 8th at St. Anne's in Clinton, and looming in the not so distant future is Huron-Perth.
