With this first real snowfall, I thought it would be a good time to post this announcement and reminder about morning rehearsals during inclement weather.
First, it is most important that you are safe on the roads. As you all know, winter driving can be tricky and even dangerous at times. If you know there's snow and/or ice on the roads, make sure to leave the house a little bit earlier than usual to give yourself EXTRA time to get where you're going. If at any point you and/or parents/guardians/drivers etc. do not feel safe on the roads, you do not have to be at rehearsal that morning. Simply come find me before classes begin (or send me a quick email) to let me know that that is the reason for your being away from rehearsal.
With regard to snow-days, I will make a posting the very second I find out that buses are cancelled on a given day. You can certainly listen to the radio but I will usually know at least 10 minutes before they do if buses are cancelled. Sometimes they do not decide to cancel buses until many of us are already on the road. While I cannot announce a cancellation until it is "official", please use your judgment when travelling in snowy conditions. If you don't think it's safe to drive, don't drive.
That said, you are still expected to make every effort to arrive to rehearsal on time. Be safe, but be smart also, if you think you need extra time to get to school, please try to leave a little earlier.
If you have any questions about this policy, please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss further.
Regards,
Mr. Varillas
