Rehearsal Schedule: Week of Monday, November 14th, 2011

Monday

11:45am - Mr. V's hour

Tuesday

7:15am - Senior Band

11:45am - Intermediate Band

Wednesday

7:15am - Jazz Ensemble

11:45am - Xmas gigs rehearsal

Thursday

7:15am - Senior Band (wear your band shirts)

12:00pm - Load bus to Clinton for Massed Band

7:00pm - Massed Band Concert at Central Huron Secondary School!  :)

Friday

7:15am - Jazz Ensemble

12:00pm - Christmas Gigs Ensemble departs for Salvation Army gig (Wingham)

 

Announcements 

  1. The itinerary for Massed Band on Thursday will follow in a second posting.  It is very important that all band members and parents/guardians read and understand the itinerary for the day.
  2. This week, we will be starting our annual Poinsettia fundraising campaign for the Christmas season.  Please keep us in mind for your Poinsettia decorating plans this year!  The money students raise goes directly into a Madill account for that student's use toward bus costs, ticket fees and festival registration costs later in the year.  It is a very worthwhile fundraiser and is especially helpful for those students needing a little financial support towards their involvement in the music program here at Madill.
  3. This week, the Christmas Gigs Ensemble has their first performance at the Salvation Army on Friday, November 18th.  This is a very short afternoon performance of some Christmas songs and carols at the front entrance of the Salvation Army Thrift Store.  Each year, the Salvation Army holds their Christmas Kettle fundraising campaign and Friday is the kickoff ceremony.  If anyone is interested, please feel free to come down to the front doors of the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Wingham at 1:00pm to hear the group perform!
  4. Please keep practicing and working on your parts individually.  A number of you are making great efforts in this and it's helping us all.  Imagine what would happen if we ALL took that same attitude (think of how far we could get).  Develop a good habit now!
  5. Music Council members, although we are not meeting this week, please continue to ensure your preparations are moving foward with respect to Music Night etc.
  6. As you can see (especially by the calendar), the Christmas season is probably the busiest season of our performance year.  Please keep an eye on this blog for any updates and/or last-minute changes to itineraries, performance schedules, etc. as they arise.  As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me at ericvari@fc.amdsb.ca or call the school.

    For those who are familiar with the man’s work, The Lady Killer is hardly about to change your perspective of what Cee Lo’s capable of. His range is extensive, his ingenuity is plentiful, and his creativity is outstanding. With a soulful R&B/motown sound to the album coupled with his incredible vocal range make this one of my favourite albums in the past year by far! For those of you who have not yet heard the name Cee Lo Green, he is the fantastic voice behind the "Gnarles Barkley" name of a few years ago with the single "Crazy".

    Lenny Kravitz: Greatest Hits
    More prolific than D'Angelo and Terence Trent D'Arby combined, one-man rock & soul revivalist Lenny Kravitz kept traditional pop values alive through much of the '90s. From the Motown-perfect "It Ain't Over Til It's Over" to the Beatlesesque "Let Love Rule," Kravitz has always inhabited his influences with a genuine spirit that transcends imitation. The 15 tracks found here provide a surprisingly coherent reminder of just how much the artist has accomplished in a relatively short time. And even if his biggest hit, "Are You Gonna Go My Way," falls short of its Hendrix target, Kravitz's cover of the Guess Who's "American Woman" still rocks in a hard-hitting way.

    If you like the sound of the bass guitar, you need to check out this album! These three bass players are among the top contemporary, rock, funk, blues and fusion bass-guitarists. They seamlessly mix their, soul and passion for their music with their outstanding technical skill and proficiency!

  • Chris Cornell -

    Chris Cornell: Carry On
    This singer has always impressed me. From his first incarnations with Soundgarden through his Audioslave days, and now with his first solo album since 1999, he retains the energy and presence he always had and has added an incredible songwriting ability (not to dismiss the soundgarden days!). Of particular note is his cover of Michael Jackson's "Beat it", but with acoustic guitar and aching vocal lines! This is truly a great album!

    Mika: Life in Cartoon Motion
    One of the very few pop albums I actually enjoy listening to. Mika's sound is wholeheartedly uplifting on this album and you can't help but feel energized when listening.

  • Radiohead -

    Radiohead: OK Computer
    One of my favourite albums of all time. This record captures the band in the midst of their transition between their well-established rock sound and their emerging experimentalism with electronics and synthesizers. This is an incredible album to listen to.

  • Stevie Ray Vaughn -

    Stevie Ray Vaughn: Texas Flood



    Blues music suddenly became cool again when Stevie Ray Vaughn came out with this album in 1983. Recommedation for the month of November.
