A fusion of sound will ring from Central Huron Secondary School as High School ensembles from across the county converge on November 17th. For over twenty years, Huron Music Fest has boasted a mass band composed of students from South Huron, Central Huron, Goderich DCI and F.E Madill under the direction of a critically acclaimed guest clinician. This year, two mass bands will be formed: a senior ensemble and an intermediate ensemble to accommodate massive participation. Colin R. Clark, conductor, clinician, adjudicator and composer/arranger, will work with the senior mass-band and retired South Huron District High School teacher Bob Robilliard will conduct the intermediate ensemble over a series of afternoon workshops and evening concert which is open to the public.
Colin, a graduate of UWO, hails from Toronto Ontario where he acts as the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra’s Artistic Director. Now in its 20th season, the project he founded as a high school student has grown to be one of Canada’s premier youth wind ensembles. Colin has studied at the Manhattan School of Music and in May of 2006 he made his Carnegie Hall debut with the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra. He has conducted orchestras and choirs across the province and directed the Provincial Honour Bands of Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Prince Edward Island. In the spring of 2008 he served as conductor of the prestigious National Youth Band of Canada. Maestro Clarke inspires a passion and joy for music in the hearts of our youth.'
Retired teacher Bob Robilliard directed the South Huron District High School music program for over 20 years. A past oboe player in the London Symphony, Robilliard has lead SHDHS ensembles to the National stage at Music Fest Canada. There, under his direction, the ensembles have come home with gold medals. Mr. Robilliard has worked as an instructor at National Music Camp (NMC) and as a music consultant for the Huron School Board before its reorganization as the AMDSB. His experience working with youth is exciting and widely welcomed!
Parents and community members alike are encouraged to attend the 7:00pm evening concert on November 17th, at Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton Ontario. Join the Avon Maitland District School Board’s chair, Randy Wagler as he hosts Huron Music Fest 2011!
