English 1P - Tuesday, April 12

We continue to work on identifying and correcting comma splices and sentence fragments.  We'll have a little quiz on this tomorrow.  We are also just starting a unit on Short Stories and are gathering theoretical information that will later appear on a test.  No homework (unless you haven't handed your overdue essay in!)

English 1P - Tuesday, April 5th

Keep working on those essays!  If you're on track, you should be finished your 4th paragraph today, and be able to write your concluding paragraph tomorrow morning.  Don't forget, we're also having a quiz on fused sentences and comma splices.

English 1P - Wednesday, March 30th

Wow.  It's been a long time since I've updated this blog.  This happens every year around the Sears Drama Festival time. I'm starting to get things together again.

We are working on writing opinion essays.  All students should have their outline complete and Introductory paragraph written for Friday am.  Tomorrow the students will write a mock literacy test.  This will help the students prepare for the real test next year, and help the teachers flag those who may need extra help. On Friday, our class will travel to the Blyth Theatre to see a production of "the Good Soul of Szechuan" starring 7 Madill students, 2 of whom are in our class. Consent forms and $5 should be in by tomorrow.

English 1P - Thursday, March 3rd

Today, we began with some review of sentence fragments to prepare for the test on Monday. The students also wrote opinion paragraphs about a topic of their choice.  Many students were done in class.  For those who were not, it is due at the beginning of class tomorrow.

English 1P - March 2nd

Today, we discussed opinion paragraphs and how they differ from information paragraphs.  As a class, we read an opinion paragraph about the abuse of young women in Nicaragua, then we wrote one to do with violence in hockey.  Tomorrow, students should arrive in class with an idea for their own opinion paragraph.
