Grade 10 Art Class Heads to Toronto on Thursday

The AVI 2O art class heads to Toronto this Thursday to tour the Ontario College of Art and Design and the Art Gallery of Ontario.

Mr. Sherwood would like to remind students going on the trip to be in front of the school by 7:00 AM. The bus will leave at 7:15 sharp.

You will need $10 for your one day TTC pass and money for lunch and supper. Wear comfortable shoes since you will be walking all day - and dress for the weather! 

Make sure you bring your cell phone if you have one!

We should be back at the school between 9 and 9:30 PM depending on traffic.

Toronto Photo Hunt Yields Great Images

Friday was a chance for the AWQ 4M photography class to get out of the school and out of routine to collect some fantastic images.  We packed up the cameras, jumped on a bus and headed for the bright lights of Toronto - city of diverse cultures and photo subjects around every corner.

Our day took us to many different neighbourhoods in search of the perfect photo.  We began with Queen Street and Graffiti Alley then took in Chinatown, Kensington Market, Dundas Square and the Harbourfront.

Along the way we sampled food from the markets, ate a delicious lunch in Chinatown, jostled for position on the street cars and subway trains and enjoyed the day!

This semester's photography class is off to Toronto this Friday to participate in an Amazing Race style scavenger hunt.  If you are going you need to be in front of the school at 7:00 AM.  The bus will leave at 7:15 sharp.

You will need $10 for your one day TTC pass and money for lunch and supper. Wear comfortable shoes since you will be walking all day - and dress for the weather! You will share one of the group cameras for the day or bring your own.  

No cameras will be signed out on Thursday... but the list will be made available for those that need to sign out after the trip.

New York Trip An Enriching Experience

Madill students returned from a week in New York city on Sunday, October 16. The weather may have been a little damp but the that didn't stop our students from getting the most out of their time in Manhattan!

Our students exerienced the best of Broadway and off-Broadway shows, art museums and many attractions of one of the world's most exciting cities.  They also experienced the neighbourhoods of SoHo and Greenwich Village in a scavenger hunt/amazing race adventure.

The benefits of travel are many and often some of the most powerful learning experiences happen by chance.  This was the case when students encountered protesters from the Occupy Wall Street group on several occassions.
