I never intended to be a teacher. It was one of the last things I saw myself doing.
My original plan, when I finished university, was to work as an artist. Teaching was a job I thought I might do for a few years, while I established myself as a painter. That's not quite how it turned out.
I discovered that teaching was the most challenging, frustrating, time consuming and possibly the most rewarding profession one can pursue - so I stayed.
Now, 28 years later, I find myself preparing to do what I had originally planned, working full time as an artist. I look forward to this, knowing that my time as a teacher has prepared me well.
