Welcome Back!

Be sure to drop into the Library to see what's new.  If you read something great during the summer, stop by and let us know.  We want to create a bulletin board letting other people know what you have read and what you might recommend to others. 

I read lots of books during the summer.  I really enjoyed the final book in the Hunger Games series, Mockingjay.  It will be on the shelf in the Library as soon as it is catalogued.  If you haven't read this series yet, I would recommend it! 

We are implementing a new Circulation system in the Library so it will look a little different when you do a computer search for books or resources this year using the online catalogue.   It should be easy to use and it offers some new features that were not available with the old system.  It will take some time to get it fully functional but it should be up and running very soon.

Have a great year and remember that the Library is the place to come to work on projects and assignments.  We are here to help so let us know if you need assistance throughout the year.

Madill is reading "13 Reasons Why"

There is a new Book Club at Madill this spring.  We are reading the book 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher.  A number of people have picked up the book and some have already finished reading it.  Most people are really liking it. 

There will be a meeting in the Library Seminar Room on Thursday, May 20 when everyone who is reading the book will get together to talk it.  If you would like to read this book and join in the discussion, you are welcome to drop into the Library and pick up a copy of the book.  Our meeting will take place at 12:00 so have your lunch and drop into the Seminar Room.    Please bring your copy of the book. 

This is a good book that looks at the effects that your actions might have on someone else.  Sometimes we don't even think about what we say and do and how that might affect another person.

Madill's White Pine Winner!

Madill students who read the books on the White Pine reading list this year have voted and Wondrous Strange by Lesley Livingston was chosen as the most popular title.  In second place was Getting the Girl by Susan Juby.  The voting was very close this year.  Thanks to everyone who participated in the reading group.  The official winner of the White Pine Award will be announced in Toronto in May.

It will be interesting to see which books are on the list next year.  If you didn't get a chance to read the books on the list yet, you can still find them on the shelf.

White Pine 2010 Books

The White 2010 White Pine Books have arrived in the Library.  The ten books on the list are written by Canadian authors and geared specifically to Young Adult readers in secondary school.  If you want to join the reading programme, stop by the Library to sign up and start reading soon!  Remember to be eligible to vote for your favourite book, you need to have read at least five of the ten titles.

I started with the book Getting the Girl and enjoyed it.  I'm looking forward to reading all of the books on the list and I hope that lots of Madill students will join me to read these stories.  There is a wide range of topics covered in these books.

New Books

There are new books arriving regularly in the Library.  Stop by to see what new titles are available.  Remember books may be signed out for three weeks.   Be sure that you renew or return library materials by the due date.  If you do need to renew a book because you're not quite done, it's easy.  Just stop in and ask to have the book renewed.   If you are late returning something, there will be a fine.  Remember to check the due date stamped at the front of your book.  It might also help to write the due date in your planner so you don't forget to return it on time!
